Join the adventure as a volunteer.

Volunteers are an essential link to the success of Oxfam Trailwalker. Every year, nearly 300 people take part in this great human adventure. It is thanks to them that the event can take place, and we can never thank them enough for their contribution to the fight against inequality around the world.

When?

We need volunteers between Thursday 18 May and Monday 22 May. But this doesn’t mean you have to commit for the entire duration of the event. You can take part for the whole weekend, or just for a few hours.

Accomodation

A campsite reserved for volunteers is provided 15 minutes’ walk from the aerodrome

Catering

All meals are taken care of by Oxfam throughout the weekend.

Volunteer missions

Teams registration

You welcome the walkers, register them, check that they have the compulsory equipment and distribute the Welcome Packs. You give them the important information before they start the walk. Some volunteers are responsible for selling thermal blankets and handing out reusable cups.

Checkpoints management

The mission at checkpoints is the most important: you have to take care of reprovisioning, parking for supporters, make sure the teams are scanned when they leave the checkpoints, and above all motivate the walkers in their challenge.

Logistics

You will be deployed at the checkpoints before and after they are opened, to bring and set up all the necessary equipment (tables, benches, provisions, etc.). Good physical fitness is needed for this mission.

Transport

You will transport equipment and people from the military base to the checkpoints. The volunteers in charge of this mission must of course have a driver’s licence, and they must also be familiar with driving vans.

Encouragement

Your role is to encourage the walkers and motivate them in different ways: by applauding, shouting, singing, etc. So if you are a musician or a street artist, or if you want to make a flag to support the walkers, let your imagination run free!

Massage

Your work begins when the walkers’ muscles and joints become painful. Massages are provided at different checkpoints as well as at the finish. We will set up a tent, massage tables, wipes, oils, etc. Each massage shift will be supervised by a professional masseur or masseuse from whom you will be able to ask advice.

Volunteering at Oxfam Trailwalker: an unforgettable experience

Are you at least 18 years old? Are you available for a few hours during the last weekend of August, or even for a few days before, during or after that weekend? Do you want to experience an incredible weekend of solidarity among walkers, supporters and volunteers? Are you motivated to pitch in? Get ready for an extraordinary weekend full of emotions. Oxfam Trailwalker is an incredible concentration of solidarity. As a volunteer, you play a key role in this great human adventure. We can never thank you enough for your contribution to the fight against injustice and poverty in the world.

Don’t take our word for it, they tell it better than we can!

  • Bert Dhont
“Even after the 11 editions in which I’ve taken part, Oxfam Trailwalker remains for me as unforgettable as the first time. A perfect mix of adrenaline, emotion and solidarity that you have to experience for yourself, as a walker, a supporter or a volunteer.”
  • Belinda Torres Leclercq
“I really enjoyed volunteering because I was able to motivate walkers at the start of their journey, and because you go out with colleagues and get to know each other better.”
  • Julien Desiderio
“Oxfam Trailwalker is a great occasion for meeting colleagues, volunteers and people who financially support Oxfam’s work, all in a positive atmosphere and surrounded by nature.”
